    Description

This charming antique cane or umbrellaa handle is a figural representation of a dog (probably an Airedale terrier),  The dog has great glass eyes and a leather collar. It looks like the dog might have had a hanged jaw at one time but this is missing (he looks quite natural thae way he is!).  When I bought this piece, i thought it was carved wood but upon careful examination I think it is carved resin.  It is 2.75" from the tip of the dog's nose to the back of his head and 2.25" from his neck to the top of his head.  It is about 1.5" thick.  I think the piece is American and dates to about 1910.  It is possibly gutta percha  or some other natural form of resin.
